Yacon Root

Prebiotic

Yacon (Smallanthus sonchifolius) is also known as the Peruvian “apple of the earth”. It is considered a superfood, with a rich source of fructooligosaccharides (FOS) which include inulin. The FOS in Yacon is a type of sugar that is not digested in the stomach, but it feeds the friendly bacteria in the intestines, including lactobacillus and bifidobacteria. These friendly bacteria are essential for maintaining good health, as they offer protection from toxic bacteria. Since FOS is not digested in the stomach, these sugars do not raise blood glucose levels.
Yacon contains 20 amino acids as well as potassium, calcium and phosphorous. It also helps the body absorb the vitamins and minerals in other foods.
Yacon farming started around 1200 BC in the high mountains of Peru, in a region called Oxapampa. The harvest lasts from February to April every second year. Since the Yacon pulls nutrients from the soil, a rest year of soil culturing and replenishment is needed between each harvest. The Yacon plant grows around 6 feet high, with about 10 roots per plant, weighting 2-4 pounds each.

Beet Root

Super-food

Beet root is a super-food, rich in Thiamine, Folate, Choline, Calcium and Potassium, and also containing Riboflavin, Vitamin B-6, Pantothenic acid, Betaine, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Zinc, Copper and Selenium. Numerous studies have been done with Beet root, indicating benefits for the heart, circulation, blood pressure, dementia, diabetes, digestion, inflammation and athletic performance. Guess what? The All-In Smoothie powder includes Organic Beet Root!

Ceylon Cinnamon Tree

Antioxidant

Antioxidant Why is Cinnamon good for me? Are some Cinnamons better than others? Cinnamon is rich in polyphenol antioxidants. Antioxidants protect the body from oxidative stress. Some studies show that cinnamon has an anti-inflammatory effect. Others show it can improve some key risk factors for heart disease, including cholesterol, triglycerides and blood pressure. In another study, Cinnamon increased sensitivity to the hormone insulin. In quantities of more than 1 gram per day, cinnamon may reduce fasting blood sugar levels, a metric associated with diabetes. Studies in animals suggest Cinnamon may protect against cancer and be of benefit against neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinsons and Alzheimers. Other studies show it can help fight bacteria such as Listeria and Salmonella, and reduce tooth decay and bad breath. The four main types of Cinnamon are Ceylon, Cassia, Saigon Korintje. Ceylon is set apart from the others, because it is very low in Coumarin, a substance that has been known to cause liver damage. The other (Cassia) types of Cinnamon are higher in Coumarin, so Ceylon Cinnamon was chosen for the ALL-IN Smoothie™ powder product to provide the benefits without negative side effects.

Grape Seed

Bioflavanoids

The skins seeds of red grapes contain a potent combination of bioflavanoid antioxidants known as Oligomeric ProanthoCyanidins (OPC). These specialized bioflavanoids have been shown in studies*, to be particularly effective in protecting the body against oxidative stress and degenerative mechanisms, affecting many organs and functions.

Turmeric

Anti-Inflammatory

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a flowering plant in the ginger family (Zingiberaceae), that grows tuberous roots called rhizomes from the base of its stem. The primary ingredient in Turmeric studied for health benefits is Curcumin, a powerful immune-boosting anti-inflammatory anti-oxidant. Although Curcumin by itself is not easily absorbed in the human body, the bioavailability in natural powdered Turmeric is much higher . Articles such as this one indicate health benefits including immune system and blood sugar regulation, LDL Cholesterol reduction, headache and PMS relief and viral defense. This article indicates Turmeric may help against Alzheimer's, by crossing the blood-brain barrier, breaking down protein-plaque in the brain and boosting levels of BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotropic Factor). Being fat-soluble, Turmeric may be more beneficial when consumed with a high-potency oil such as Black Cumin seed.
